I look forward to your input, comments, and questions during this study. Your participation is very important and very helpful to help others with the same issues or questions you may have. Let’s build up and edify each other.

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

In this week’s study we will look at 3 more questions about being a disciple of Jesus Christ

  1. Am I a fan or a disciple?
  2. How do I know I am a disciple of Jesus Christ?
  3. What does a disciple look like?

Let’s look at the first question;

AM I A FAN OR A DISCIPLE?

Remember last week’s definition for disciple? Here it is again in case you forgot:

Definition of disciple: a personal follower of Jesus Christ during His life, especially one of the 12 Apostles. In Christianity, disciple primarily refers to a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ. Not just a follower but one who applies what he has learned. I added the definition of a follower to help you out.

Definition of follower. a : one in the service of another : retainer.    b : one that follows the opinions or teachings of another.     c : one that imitates another.

Definition of a fan:  A fan or fanatic, sometimes also termed aficionado or enthusiast, is a person who exhibits strong interest or admiration for something or somebody, such as a celebrity or a sport or a sports team, a genre, a politician, a book, a movie or an entertainer.

Which definition best fits you? Why?

Matt 7:21-23 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

(Also look at Luke 8:19-21; Luke 9:57-62; John 9:41-66,  we will discuss these scriptures a bit)

In John 9:41-66 were the disciples that left fans or followers?

To our next question:

HOW DO I KNOW I AM A DISCIPLE OF JESUS CHRIST?

What are hints we can gain from the scriptures we looked at?

(Also look at these scriptures: 1John 2:3-11; John 15:18-20)

You will notice a true transformation!!! (Romans 12:1-2)

John 8:31 ,  Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

How do you feel or react when someone says, “Oh you’re one of those Christians”?

There is no way to follow Jesus without it interfering with your life. It will cost you something?

WHAT DOES A DISCIPLE LOOK LIKE?

John 13:34-35 , A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Phil 2: 3-4

Look at John 15:7-13

Do you carry the characteristics of a disciple? ( Gal 5: 22-23)

NEXT WEEK:

  2. Spiritual Gifts
